One of the key challenges facing the delivery of the strategy is the lack of investment in women’s health. The DHSC has committed to increase investment in women’s health by £1.4 billion over the next five years. However, this is still less than the £2.8 billion that was cut from the Department’s budget between 2010 and 2015. 

Another challenge is the lack of data on women’s health. The strategy sets out a number of goals for reducing the health inequalities between women and men. However, data on women’s health is often poor or non-existent. This makes it difficult to measure progress against the goals set out in the strategy. 

The delivery of the Women’s Health Strategy is also being hindered by the lack of a dedicated women’s health minister. The role of women’s health minister was abolished in 2012 and has not been reinstated. This means that there is no single minister responsible for overseeing the delivery of the strategy.
